Harley Davidson has come a long way from that day in 1901 when its founders 21-year old William Harley created a bicycle engine and then with his friend Arthur Davidson assembled and sold a racing motorcycle. With their last names combined, they set up the “Harley Davidson Motor Company” in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with a production plant that is nothing more than a crude shed made of wood, sans the glamour that the company is associated with today.
The motorcycle brand’s name first caught the attention of motorcycle enthusiasts when one of the Harley motorcycles won a Chicago race. This was followed by several other racing victories until it has been placed in the map of the motorcycle industry and in the consciousness of motorcycle enthusiasts.
